A memorial service for Carl Bragg, 63, of Sudan, was held Monday, January 21, 2013, at 1:30pm at the First United Methodist Church in Sudan, Texas. Rev. Larry Springer officiated. Combest Funeral Home is in charge of the cremation. Bragg died January 11, 2013, in Lubbock and his final resting place will be Pleasant Hills Cemetery in Pritchett, Texas.
Bragg was born August 11, 1949, to Charles Hassell and Geraldine (Gerri) C. Brown Bragg. He graduated high school from San Marcos Academy in 1968. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management from the University of Texas. He was an honorary member of the Texas Rangers and will be featured in the Texas Rangers Museum scheduled to open in Fredericksburg. He was a veteran, having serving in the U.S. Army.
Bragg was a Texas Licensed Master Peace Officer. His dedicated career began in 1973. He was currently serving the citizens of Sudan as Chief of Police. Bragg also served the Departments of Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Blanco Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Gilmer Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Hays County Constable Precinct 1, and Big Sandy Police Department. Bragg also worked for Comal ISD, Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Colfield Unit, and Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station’s Nuclear Power Plant in Corporal.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bragg is survived by his son, Carl Bragg, Jr., of North Hollywood, California; his daughter, Christine McCloud and husband, Brian, of Santa Clarita, California; two granddaughters, Ava McCloud and Ella McCloud of Santa Clarita, California; a sister, Diane Gaye of Pritchett, Texas; and a niece, Carrie Cowell, of Longview, Texas.
