Thaddeus Charles “Thad” McCormick III, 70 of Kendalia, Texas passed away on Monday, February 17th, in a Boerne hospital. At his request there will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
Thad was born in Dallas, Texas on May 2, 1943, to Dr. Thaddeus Charles McCormick Jr. and Geraldine (Fogle) McCormick. He grew up in Buda, Texas, where he was a graduate of Buda High School. Following high school, Thad graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and was a lifelong “Longhorn Fan.” A Veteran of the United States Army, Thad moved to Galveston in 1965, where he owned and operated an insurance agency for the next 40 years. Thad married Susan (Pfendler) McCormick in 1989, and the couple continued to be heavily involved in Galveston’s many community activities, giving their time and donations. Thad retired from the insurance business in 2006, and he and Susan then moved to the couple’s ranch in Kendalia, Texas. The loves of his life were his wife Susan, his children, and grandchildren.
Thad is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Thaddeus Charles McCormick Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan McCormick of Kendalia, TX; his mother, Geraldine McCormick of Buda, TX; his daughter, Melanie Kaufman and her husband Garry of Friendswood, TX; his son, Chuck McCormick and wife Allie of Austin, TX; siblings Mike McCormick of Lockhart, TX; Debbie Vacek and husband Garry of Buda, TX; and John McCormick and wife Cindy of Buda, TX. Thad leaves behind seven grandchildren; Taylor, Carson, Rylan, and Kennedy Kaufman; Max, Curtis, and Jane McCormick; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many dear friends, and his Galveston pool players.
