The Danbury Panthers exacted some revenge for last season’s loss to Blanco by returning the favor this past Friday, as they defeated Blanco 35 to 14 to end Blanco’s season and leave the Panthers’ record at 6 and 5. Danbury will advance to face Refugio this week in the area round of the play-offs.
The Panthers from Danbury wasted little time jumping out to an early 14 to 0 lead as they scored on a short 2-yard run in the first quarter and then opened the second quarter with a 55-yard TD pass. Blanco answered late in the second quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run by Colton Elrod. Aikman Elrod converted the PAT to cut the Danbury lead to 14-7. However, Danbury answered Blanco’s TD with one of their own just before halftime to score on a 3-yard run to make the score going into halftime 21 to 7.
The third quarter saw both teams have trouble finding the end zone, as neither team would add to their score. However, Danbury started the fourth quarter in the same fashion as they started the game, scoring twice on runs of 5 and 18 yards to increase their lead to 35 to 7. Blanco battled to the end and put together one final drive to end the season and score on a 5-yard pass play as McKay Adamson connected with Colton Elrod. Aikman Elrod converted his second PAT of the night to close out the game’s scoring at 35-14 in favor of Danbury.
Offensively, Blanco totaled 246 yards and 18 first downs. Colton Elrod led the way with 55 yards rushing on 13 carries. Carson Kipp led the team in receiving, with 3 key receptions and more than 50 yards to help set up Blanco’s final TD.
On the defensive side of the ball, Blanco shut down Danbury’s running game, allowing just 88 yards on 25 carries. However, Danbury picked up 279 yards through the air on 18 completions. As a team, Danbury totaled 18 first downs for the game as they improved to 10 and 1.
In other bi-district games this past Friday between teams from Blanco and Danbury’s districts, East Bernard defeated Jarrell, while Rogers defeated Tidehaven and Schulenburg defeated Van Vleck.
