The Blanco American Legion Post 352 October meeting was full of information for members! First, Connie Barron presented information about hospice and services offered by Hill Country Memorial. Ms. Barron explained how hospice is not only to help people at the end of life, but also to assist in improvement of life so people may enjoy their lives to the fullest. Unlike large Texas counties, small counties like Blanco County are not required to maintain a Veterans Service Office to assist local veterans. In Blanco County, veteran assistance is provided by the Blanco American Legion through programs like this and by committed local volunteers.
Information provided by one of the Post's community partners, the Blanco Library, was also very informative. Library Trustees Dave Loderman and Greg Henton shared the structure of the Blanco County South Library District, how the library is funded, programs offered, library vision through the year 2023, and the importance of the community's participation in the library's future.
A key activity for the evening was finalizing plans for participation in the November 1, 2, and 3 Western Showcase and the annual Veterans parade on November 9. A representative of the Texas Honor Ride, a charity that raises money for wounded troops and their families at Brooke Army Medical Center, explained how Texas Honor Ride members will coordinate their police escorted ride through the city of Blanco with the American Legion's veteran events of the day.
Three invited community guests were also at the meeting, enjoying the meal and fellowship with the veterans and auxiliary members. Blanco American Legion Post 352 is Blanco County's only veteran service organization, also serving Canyon Lake, Bulverde, Spring Branch and Fischer.
