Thank you to all who made our Oral History Project Reception such a success! Thank you to Willard Gibbons for commemorating this wonderful event through pictures. During the evening, Barney Cline fulfilled a years’ old promise to Bob Keith to provide copies of our interviews to the Johnson City Library. Maggie Goodman, Johnson City’s librarian, touchingly accepted the copies in Bob’s memory. The evening was filled with over 100 attendees, wonderful food, beverages, decorations, and good conversations. It was amazing to see all of the families there and some of the original interviewees and veterans accepting their copies after so many hours of hard work creating the beautiful collection. There were tears and hugs. This was a perfect night for the Blanco Library to celebrate 75 wonderful years of being a part of the Blanco community! Imagine, on October 12, 1938, this newspaper announced the grand opening of the Blanco Library in Fulcher’s drugstore (now Strickland’s) with 400 books and 75 years later the library has nearly 30,000 items! This enchanted evening could not have happened without the following:
Klepac Greenhouses for the Flowers.
Hye Meadow Winery and Real Ale for the Beverages.
The Blanco Woman’s Club, Old Blanco County Courthouse, and the Oral History Committee for Refreshments and Decorating.
Uptown Blanco and Whim for the Tables and Chairs.
Special Notices: All video interviews are available for checkout for anyone wanting to learn more about the history of Blanco and our citizens. Also, our 2013 calendars (does not include 2014) are now FREE! Pick one up for the beautiful pictures! We also have free 75th celebration pencils and magnets that you can pick up to keep our hours on your fridge!
Also note that the Blanco Woman's Club will be meeting November 13th at the First Baptist Church at 2pm.
