The Blanco FFA Chapter recently competed at the Tarleton State University Invitational Career Development Events in Stephenville this past week. Overall, more than 7,800 contestants from over 550 schools, class 1A-5A, competed this year in more than a dozen events. This year’s competition set a record for the number of schools and contestants and once again makes this the largest youth competitive event in the nation.
As a team, Blanco finished 1st in Livestock Judging, Homesite Evaluation and Environmental Natural Resources, while placing 2nd in Entomology, 3rd in Land Judging, 5th in Range & Pasture, and 11th in Dairy Cattle Judging. Blanco was the only school to win multiple contests and was the only school to have six top-5 finishes.
Individually, 14 local FFA members were recognized on stage and received awards for their efforts. Those students were: Megan Wier, Rance Dollahite, Erica Flores, Monica Flores, Jace Ammons, Kyle Sauceda, Kenny Omo, Phil Alvarado, Trey Hunter, Dru Ramirez, Grant Calzoncit, Britton Wagner, Mike Gonzalez and Alley Penshorn. Others contributing to their teams’ success included: Joanna Delavan, Colton Childress, Megan Andrews, Mackenzie Johnson, Colton Barrow, Ryan Edwards, Jamie McClinton, Lexee Jenkins, Elise Edmondson, Morgan Lowak, Colton Elrod, Jordon Forsberg, James Rodriguez, Carlin Green, Callie Culton, James Leachman, Mason LeBlanc, Shelta Alexander, Sam Isenberg, Logan Dodd, Ed Alvarado, Tyler Hardin, Skylar Itz, Deanna Sevilla and Nicole Spivey.
For their efforts and the overall success of their teams at TSU this year, the Blanco FFA was awarded $5,000 in scholarships. Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
