By Bob Flores, Master Mason, Blanco Lodge #216

On Saturday, March the 16th, members of the Blanco Masonic Lodge #216, along with members of Boy Scout Troop #497 (Joe & Niki Lockwood, Mitchell and Bret Barnett, Skylar and Denise Wagner, Thomas Kirkscey and Brian Meier) helped out in one of the annual Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup events.

The teams were treated to breakfast tacos by members of the Order of the Eastern Star. At eight o’clock, the teams headed out to Highway 281 and started to make their way north on both sides of the highway. Bag after bag was filled with every kind of trash imaginable. The trash mainly consists of beer cans and bottles, along with fast food packaging, and empty cigarette packs; this year, there were blown-out tires and a garage door opener as well. The team covered about eight- to nine-tenths of a mile of the two-mile stretch that leads and welcomes folks into the City of Blanco, Texas. This is an ongoing effort, tedious and back-bending work, which is only rewarded by the notion that it is the right thing to do and it helps keep our Hill Country community and homes as pristine as possible. Everything and every effort helps keep Blanco a destination for all travelers and visitors to admire. Please give a honk and a wave the next time you see us out on the roadway and we will appreciate that you care.
