Keep Blanco Beautiful is not all work and no play! Pat Vallone and Joey Garza celebrated their birthdays last week after a couple of hours spent working hard keeping Blanco Beautiful.

Can you hear the turkey gobbling, a deep voice saying “Ho Ho Ho,” and sleigh bells ringing as we are get ready for the Holiday Season? Thanksgiving is just 29 days away and KBB volunteers are busy getting Bindseil Park and city property decorated for the “Christmas in Blanco” Trail of Lights.

Amy Petri and her FCCLA classes have been busy working with us for two weeks, wrapping lights on the tree trunks and putting new lights on our old city Christmas decorations. The Leos will be working the 27th and 28th to help us get ready for lighting the square, then PEC will be here around the 2nd of November to put lights in the trees.

I am sure that some of you remember the beautiful “big” decorations hanging on the light poles all over Blanco several years ago. In fact, Cindy told me the story about where the decorations came from and the work a bunch of people did to put the bright shiny tinsel and lights on them. She said their hands were cut up from the wire in the tinsel, which is still bright and shiny and is still on the decorations. Lawrence Mikes has worked with the high schools kids washing the dust off and replacing the lights. We have most of them refinished now.

We have also been busy celebrating the birthdays of the KBB volunteers. For many years, each month we have a big birthday lunch at one of our good Blanco restaurants for fellowshipping and sharing gifts with the birthday gals and guys. We celebrated Joey Garza and Pat Vallone’s October birthdays at Uptown Blanco Restaurant on October 9th. Martha Gosnell has put the picture and names of our group in the paper with this article.

Over the past 13 years there have been many KBB volunteers and each one becomes part of the family we are. Many have been here for all of the 13 years and many stayed a long time, and we miss each one when they are gone. We would welcome you with open arms if you feel like coming and joining our KBB family. We have 9 committees, but the most active is our Beautification Committee, led by Judy Dorsett. They work every Tuesday morning, weather permitting, faithfully to help Make and Keep Blanco Beautiful. Drop by and say hello sometime or call Judy Dorsett at 833-5663 to volunteer.
