On March 18, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. Blanco First Baptist Church—across from Blanco High School—will accept registration for its first term of Adult Community English Classes for our area. The spring session will begin on Monday, March 25, and extend through May 20. With all classes on Monday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be a break for the summer and the fall session will start on September 16. The cost is $20 per person or $35 for a couple, which will include textbooks and other learning materials. Childcare will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
After receiving the pastor’s support, planners checked with the Blanco School Administration to find out how ‘real’ the need for English language learners was and discovered that efforts to provide the classes would be much encouraged. The growing migrant population in the county, along with the many non-English speaking farm workers and parents of school children in the community, made the need for English lessons very real! School officials explained that they have had no funding available for such studies for the past 10 years.
Blanco FBC ministry goal is to provide support and instruction in English to adult English language learners while demonstrating and sharing God’s love both in deed and in word—fleshing out the church motto: Loving God and Serving People. Planners are amazed and thankful for the doors God has opened and all the volunteers who are making this program possible.
