We’ve had spring and winter Blanco is registered for the 2013 Texas Trash-off Event. This year it will be held Saturday, April 13th. That is the second Saturday in April. So mark your calendars for Saturday April 13 and watch the newspaper for more information on how the event will be run in 2013. Let’s Keep Blanco Beautiful!
In April of 2012 there were 3,274 Trash-Off Events held in the State of Texas. That is more than twice the number held in 2011. 200 thousand people donated a combined half million hours to cleaning roadsides, rivers, parks and neighborhoods of unsightly, unwanted trash. In the State of Texas, 7 million pounds of trash were collected from roadsides and rivers. Recycling events, like the county trash-off, collected more than 2.6 million pounds of electronics, 17,161 pounds of batteries, and 150,427 tires. Over 2 million pounds of paper, 717,323 pounds of plastic and 1 million pounds of metal were also collected during the months covered by the Great American Clean-up.
Volunteers are valuable. The real money value of the time volunteers spent collecting trash in the 2012 Keep Texas Beautiful event was $23,300,326. That is tax money that didn’t have to be spent on roadside clean-up, money that could then be put to better use doing something the average citizen is not capable of doing, such as paving roads and building bridges. Your efforts to Keep Blanco Beautiful count!
