According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, adults between the ages of 24 and 54 spend an average of 13.6 hours each day working, caring for others, tending to household items, and participating in sports-related activities. With everyday life leaving so little time for rest, sleeping in on Sunday morning might feel more like a necessity than a luxury for many people.
Beginning on January 5 at 5 p.m., Community Bible Church, Bulverde will begin offering a Saturday night service with dinner to follow. Children’s classes will be offered for infants through fifth grade.
“For some people, church on Sunday just doesn't work because of a job or other obligations,” CBCB Pastor Larry Andrews said. “A Saturday night alternative creates an opportunity to finish up the week at church after a full day of things like sports activities or errands.”
Then, on Sunday, Andrews said, people can sleep-in, relax, and enjoy their families for a true day of peace, quiet, and fun. The idea of a genuine day of rest is foreign to most of us in our ultra-busy culture, but it's God's plan for us, he explained.
“We're excited about people energizing their faith and growing closer to God without some of the ‘church-y’ stuff,” said Andrews. “We believe God wants our faith life and our real life to be the same life so we can see what the Bible says to us in our present world, within everyday life.”
Andrews said Saturday nights at CBCB will be all about meeting Jesus in our world because God wants to meet us right where we are. The environment at CBCB is always relaxed and friendly with a come-as-you-are invitation to everyone.
