PEC Board Presents LCRA-Funded Grants to Area Nonprofits (Community News)

Johnson National Historical Park, Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department, Kempner Volunteer Fire Department, Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department and Pleasant Valley Community Center received grant checks at the PEC Board meeting Dec. 17.

Illustrating its support for area communities, Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors presented six local organizations grant checks from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) as part of the Authority’s Community Development Partnership Program. The nonprofits received their checks at the PEC Board’s meeting on Dec. 17, 2012.

Ranging in amounts from $12,025 to $25,000, the grants are part of LCRA’s continuing program to help fund capital projects that support economic development in communities throughout its 58-county service area. The Co-op’s Community and Economic Development group, which offers grant writing assistance, helped three of the six groups receiving funds Monday.

“The LCRA’s program was established in 1996, and over the last five years approximately $1.3 million has flowed back into the PEC service area,” said PEC Community and Economic Development Supervisor Trista Fugate. “This round of funding awarded just under $120,000 to organizations in PEC communities.”

The six organizations receiving grants are:

Austin Steam Train Association – $25,000

Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park – $24,270

Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department – $17,630

Kempner Volunteer Fire Department – $25,000

Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department – $12,025

Pleasant Valley Community Center, Inc. – $16,000
