PEC Offering $50,000 in Scholarships to 14 Graduating Seniors (Community News)

From PEC

PEC’s Scholarship Program is offering $50,000 in scholarships this year to local high school and home-schooled seniors in the Co-op’s service area, and applications for 2015 scholarships are now available.

PEC will provide 14 scholarships to deserving seniors this spring, with amounts ranging from $2,500 to one $10,000 scholarship. The scholarships can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school or trade school. Each scholarship recipient must be a high school senior, and his or her parents or legal guardians must be PEC members.

“One of the seven cooperative principles that guides PEC is a dedicated concern for its member communities,” said PEC Vice President of Member Services and 2014 PEC Scholarship Committee President Eddie Dauterive. “By helping local students pursue their educational goals, the Co-op is investing in their futures and their communities.”

Recipients will be selected based on their applicant profile, including academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need. Applicants also will be evaluated on an essay on the following topic: Identify the need for a nonprofit program to enrich, educate, serve or assist the residents of your community. How would this nonprofit benefit your community, and how would you create this organization?

The PEC Scholarship Committee selects a panel of independent judges that determine recipients. Applications and more details are available at www.pec.coop/scholarship. All scholarship materials must be submitted online by Friday, March 27.
