Eastern Star to Hold School (Community News)

From Karen Dye

The six participating chapters of District 5, Section 3, Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of the Eastern Star will host the “Friends of the Abyss” Eastern Star School of Instruction at the Carriage Hills Ranch on January 16th and 17th. There should be more than 100 Eastern Star Members from across the state in our city of Blanco for the two-day event.

Other activities include the “FANtastic Friends” Banquet to be held at the Masonic Lodge building on January 16th. A representative of the Mayor’s Office will give a proclamation from the city to welcome honorees, Worthy Grand Matron, Cheryl Albrecht and Worthy Grand Patron George Gwaltney, who are the leaders of the Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of the Eastern Star this year, based in Arlington.

Other Grand Chapter Officers include the Grand Examiner of District Five, Mrs. Linda Winn-Christinsen, District Deputy Grand Matron, Mrs. Joan Miller and Deputy Grand Matron, Mrs. Anita Wiggers. Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Wiggers are also members of Blanco Chapter #934, OES.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a fraternal organization made up of wives, sisters, widows and other female relatives of Master Masons, and Master Masons themselves. The Order provides academic scholarships for deserving students and other scholarships in all phases of religious education. It should be noted that these scholarships are not confined to members of the OES or their children. The Order also provides a home in Arlington as part of the Texas Masonic Retirement Center for Members in their twilight years. The Order is preeminent in its various charitable contributions and in community service.

This is the largest fraternal organization in the world in which both men and women can belong.
