At the Blanco ISD School Board of Trustees Meeting held October 13, Middle School Principal Keitha St. Clair presented the Spotlight on Students. “We are awarding these students tonight because they have fulfilled our school theme for this year, ‘BMS is all about respect.’ By that we mean respect for self, respect for others, respect for learning, and respect for the school and community.” said St. Clair. Each staff member chose a student to honor, those students were; Addy Seymour, Fernando Ruvalcaba, Jada Hector, Tristan Fortner, Mitchell Barnett, Delaney Munoz, Cade Calhoun, Alejandro Arreguin Aguirre, Rhealene Flores, Sheyanne Canoy, Johanna Villarreal, Yida Garcia Torres, Baylor Smith (chosen by two teachers), Cade Felps, Ayden Liesmann, Cameron Good, Skylar Wagner, Sarah Warner, Whisper Garza, Taylor Kotfas, Camila Manriquez, Hayden Riba and Ian Savory.

The Campus Recognition was presented to Debby Caudell by High School Principal, Dr. Dustin Barton. “She is an invaluable technology specialist that has worked for Blanco ISD for 31 years…” said Barton, “Without the assistance of Mrs. Caudell, I believe BHS would probably grind to a halt on any given day, especially me…. She is always there for BHS staff and students so I am honored to recognize her tonight.”

Early Release days were set for the 2014-2015 school year. They are; Friday, December 12 for the Middle and Elementary Schools District UIL Meet, Friday, December 19 for the Last Day of the First Semester, Wednesday, March 25 for the High School District UIL Meet, and Thursday, June 4 for the Last Day of School.

Superintendent Dr. Ford announced that Blanco ISD had received a rating of superior achievement for the 2012-2013 financial audit report. This rating comes from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) done by the Texas Education Agency. Board President Matt Herden commented, “Though the two aren’t really related, and this report is from two years ago, I’d like to compliment the staff and personnel that helped keep the taxes the same for this year… that we didn’t have to go up.”

The Board approved the posting of a Migrant Liaison/Tutor Position, a position which will be funded by $132,093 that was awarded to the district to serve the needs of the migrant program. The recommendation was to post a part-time position and board members were curious as to why a full-time position couldn’t be hired with that amount of funding. Dr. Rick LaBuhn explained that the District was not allowed to hire a full time position with the funding but could hire more than one part time position if the found appropriate applicants.

Other items approved were; the Investment Policy Review Resolution (no changes), the District Textbook Committee, a Budget Amendment, and to appoint Nurse Robin Johnson to Chair of the School Health Advisory Council.
