This past Wednesday, the Blanco FFA Chapter, along with the Hill District FFA Association, hosted the Annual Blanco FFA and Hill District Invitational Fall Career Development Events. This marks the 23rd consecutive year that the Blanco FFA has hosted this event, which has become the state’s largest career development event of the fall. This year alone, more than 40 teams, from 25 schools and over 250 students competed in the four events.

In the land evaluation event, Blanco placed 4th overall with Devlin Moore and Ryan Bible ranking 7th and 9th respectively. Other local FFA members competing in the land event included James McFarlin, CJ LoValvo, Justin Williams, Logan Parker, Kenny Peyton, and Julia Lopez.

Blanco’s homesite evaluation team placed 1st overall with Kameron Martinez, Savannah Kershaw, Sara Jean Martinez, Dru Ramirez, Maryn McMain, and Alexis Liesmann rounding out the top 6 placings. Also placing high were Jamie McClinton, Cross Caldwell, Joshua Copenhaver, Jonathan Campbell, John Adams, Connor Anderson, Jessica Sevilla, Noah Wheeler, Robbie Arlitt, Darrin Baer, Bret Leigh Nance, Wes Eskew, and Hayden Hunt.

The plant identification contest would also see Blanco at the top as Jacob Robinson placed 1st overall, followed by Wade Wardlow in 3rd, Joaquin Olmedo in 4th, Molly Edmondson in 5th, Brenna Wallace in 8th, and Kaleigh Griffin in 9th. Others placing high included Denise Edwards, Colby Batey, Jacob Fuller, Garrett Seales, Dalton Savanich, Nadine Ramirez, Kendall Hartmann, Maggie Reininger, and Veronica Segura.

Finally, Blanco also took home the top spot in the range and pasture contest with Kari Graham and Katherine Biggs placing 1st and 2nd respectively, while Logan Dodd, Payton Savarino, Abbie Culton, Amanda Gutherie and Kyle Gray all placed in the top 10 overall. Other local students doing well included Dylan Bates and Cheyenne Klein.

These same teams and individuals will now look towards the Area VII FFA Fall CDE’s to be held this Wednesday in Boerne. Overall, teams will be competing for a chance to advance to the State FFA Contests in the spring with hopes of eventually advancing to Nationals. Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
