
Following scrimmages in Blanco and Boerne on August 8 and 9, the Panther Volleyball Team drove the short distance to Bulverde to face Bracken Christian on Tuesday, August 12 for their first game of the season. The Varsity swept Bracken winning in three set, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-12. Senior Reagan Rogers led the team with 18 kills and 4 blocks. Senior Lexee Jenkins paced the team with 24 assists and 3 service aces. Payton Savarino, also a Senior, made 9 digs. The Junior Varsity overpowered Bracken, 25-6 and 25-12.
On Friday, August 15 the Varsity squad played in the Wimberley Tournament. The Panthers won their first match against Lockhart 25-18 and 25-19. Blanco then defeated Karnes City 25-12 and 25-2. In the last match on Friday, the Panthers lost a close game to Navarro, 9-25, 25-21, and 11-25. Blanco was seeded with other strong opponents in the Gold bracket for Saturdays games. The Panthers fell to Wimberley, 24-26 and 12-25 and then lost a long battle to Burnet 24-26, 25-18, and 24-26. Blanco finished the tournament on a high note with a 27-25 and 25-17 win over Comfort.
Through out the 6 games of the 2 day tournament, Rogers hit a total of 97 kills, made 2 blocks, nailed 11 aces and had 53 digs. Jenkins made 125 assists and added 1 block. Senior Jamie McClinton led the team with 5 blocks and added 4 aces. Savarino hit 4 aces throughout the tournament and led the team with 14 digs against Comfort. Senior Abbie Culton made 2 blocks and 1 ace over the 2 days, and paced the team with 15 digs against Burnet. Senior Kari Graham nailed a total of 8 aces. Junior Skylar Burns hit 4 blocks with Senior Ashley Hall adding 1 block.
The Varsity squad travels to the Cedar Creek Tournament in Bastrop this week, August 21-23. On Tuesday, August 26 the Freshmen, Junior Varsity, and Varsity play Geneva Boerne at the Blanco High School Gym with game times set for 4:00pm, 5:00pm, and 6:00pm.
