The third annual Children’s Art Festival, Strings and Things, is this Saturday, June 28 at the Uptown Ballroom and Courtyard from 9am-12:30pm for kids ages 6-12.
This free event presents opportunities for students to express themselves in music, dance, art, and drama The music segment will include a hands on demonstration with the students and a short concert by Elaine Barber, principal harpist for the Austin Symphony and featured soloist across the US. Andrea Meehan, director of the beautiful, recently opened Uptown Blanco Textile Studio, will direct the students in tie dyeing their own tee shirt. Virginia Pohlmeier teaches folk dancing to all ages in Austin and will share her love of movement with the kids in circle and line dancing. Sarah Culpepper, prize winning teacher, returns to this year’s festival to spark the children’s storytelling creativity.
This event is offered free to the children and is underwritten in part this year by the Claron Cage family and C.A, Rust. Other donations are gladly accepted.
