I had the happy occasion to spend time with a woman last evening who was a vibrant and very colorful personality. One of the many attention grabbing things she said to me was this: “It’s none of my business what you think of me.” I had to laugh at that. I thought to myself how wonderful it is that she has been able to find a positive and funny way to consider the possibility that some people may not like her. It’s none of my business! In other words, “I’m not asking and I don’t want to know.”

The lady knows not everyone likes or supports her position, but it doesn’t change who she is. She is who SHE chooses to be.

When I first started my weight loss journey in 2009, I had little support. When my kids were asleep, I’d take off out the door to walk the Waterleaf subdivision in Kyle, TX, where I lived at the time. I weighed a whole person more than I do now. The one man who supported my efforts was my then 17 year old son. He encouraged me and stayed up late to ride his bike alongside me…often, he would jog up and down the street while I walked. His support meant so much to me and always will! Then, he graduated and went to California for two years. I was alone; nobody to encourage me nor to support my position; the position in which I was poised, ready to change myself. When Philip left, I could’ve stopped and given up the whole effort. I was tempted. Instead, I began to wave and say ‘hello’ to anyone watering their yard at night, as I walked. I’d speak briefly to any woman outside her house as I passed by. Before long, there were six women and one man in the newly formed unofficial Waterleaf mostly-Women’s Walking Club.

We all can benefit from a support group. Be one! Make it happen! Don’t wait until the time is right or the people are in place. Do what you need to do! Let the group form around you AS YOU MOVE ON! Start doing it. Start moving your body. Let people see you unafraid to live your life to the fullest whether they like or support what you’re doing or not. Don’t stop trying to become the best YOU you are able to be simply because you’re alone or unsupported in your efforts. You don’t have to know what every person thinks about you. You only need to know who you are. You need to know you’re living this one life to the best of your ability. You need to be who you were designed to be.

It’s none of my business what you think of me. It’s the heart of my business what I think of me. I love me! I hope you love you! If so, then do something about it!
