High School counselor Michele Skillman, who lost her battle with cancer at the beginning of the school year, was remembered in a memorial ceremony conducted in front of Blanco High School on the morning of May7, her birthday.
High School principal Dr. Dustin Barton welcomed those in attendance, which included Mrs. Skillman’s daughter Vanessa. He expressed appreciation and gratitude for Mrs. Skillman’s life as a wife, mother, friend, and counselor.
Senior Megan Wier then conveyed the following sentiments:
“Mrs. Skillman was truly a blessing in all of our lives. She was the angel of our high school who watched over us all and made sure we were happy, because above anything else, that’s what she wanted--our happiness.”
“She was our angel then and still is now. Up in heaven Mrs. Skillman continues to watch over us and make sure her students, friends, and family are happy.”
“Here we are on her birthday, a time of celebration, to do just that--celebrate our friend, mother and angel.”
“On behalf of the LEO Club, I am honored to present two rainbow rose bushes and an angel to plant in the school’s garden in celebration of our beloved Mrs. Skillman.”
Guests were invited to participate in the planting of the two rose bushes. Vanessa Skillman then placed an ornamental angel in the garden.
Students and teachers who attended wore their special “Panthers Don’t Let Panthers Fight Alone” shirts in honor of Mrs. Skillman.
