Blanco County Commissioners held a Regular meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The Commissioners Court met in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse located in Johnson City, Texas. Blanco County Judge Bill Guthrie and three County Commissioners were present.
The Regular meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Blanco County Clerk Karen Newman read the minutes of the Special meeting of April 22nd, 2014. Blanco County Commissioner John Wood gave a motion to accept, and County Commissioner James Sultemeier seconded; the minutes were approved as read.
Judge Guthrie asked the Court to consider opening sealed bids for a parcel of land in Blanco County described as +/- 1,968 square feet, East ½ of Lot 1, Block 8, James Fentress Survey #171, located on N. Avenue G in the city of Johnson City with the minimum bid being set as the appraised value of $10,000. Judge Guthrie reported there was only one sealed bid and he opened it. The bid was from Patty Elliott in the amount of $10,106. Judge Guthrie asked the Commissioners Court to accept the bid, and a motion to accept was made by County Commissioner Sultemeier and seconded by County Commissioner Paul Granberg. No discussion followed, and the motion carried.
Consideration of the burn ban was raised, and County Commissioner Wood reported, “because we’ve had rain I recommend we pass on the burn ban.” No action was taken, and the burn ban remained off.
The Commissioners Court was asked to consider proclamation declaring May 18-24, 2014 as Emergency Medical Services week in Blanco County. Judge Guthrie read the proclamation to the Court as follows: WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, first responders, educators, administrators and others; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week; now THEREFORE, I, Bill Guthrie, County Judge of Blanco County, Texas in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim the week of May 18-24, 2014 as EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK.
Blanco County Commissioner Granberg gave a motion to accept the proclamation after it was read, and Commissioner Sultemeier seconded. This motion was approved.
The Commissioners were asked to consider authorization for the County Judge to sign an interlocal agreement with Lubbock County for the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases program. According to Judge Guthrie, “this has been a continuing program for a number of years. I ask for the authority to sign this contract, and I will be happy to answer any questions.” No questions or discussion followed, and the County Commissioners approved the motion made by County Commissioner Wood to approve the authorization. Commissioner Wood’s motion was seconded by Commissioner Granberg.
Judge Guthrie asked the Commissioners to consider resolution recalling Blanco County Appraisal District Board member Will Shelton pursuant to Section 6.033 of the Texas Property Tax Code. Judge Guthrie told the Court, “he [Shelton] has asked to be recalled. Is there anyone who wishes to speak regarding this issue?” No one spoke, and Judge Guthrie continued, “I would like to thank him for his service.” A motion to accept the resolution was made by County Commissioner Sultemeier and seconded by Commissioner Wood. All members of the Court signed the resolution.
