Early on Saturday morning of April 12, over 100 volunteers began preparing for the 15th annual "Don't Mess with Texas and Keep Blanco Beautiful Trash Off" and 8th annual "River Cleanup". By 9:30 am you could see young and old in bright neon yellow KBB shirts all around the city of Blanco and on the river in kyaks and canoes with black bags picking up trash. The Daisy Girl Scouts came with their special shirts that they had made just for this day. The KBB crew was busy preparing lunch at the Bindseil Park and the City employs were already on their heavy equipment moving discarded items into the 8 dumpsters that IESI provides for this cleanup day.
KBB and the City of Blanco thank the young people with BISD FFA. The Leo Club, the Blanco Boy Scouts, the Cub Scouts and Daisy Scouts for helping to Keep Blanco Beautiful by volunteering for this event. We also want to thank all of the adult volunteers who have worked with us every event year for so many years and our new volunteers.
We want to thank Lowe's for their donation of the food to serve our volunteers who come in hungry after all that work. Without our sponsor, patron and business members we would not be able to accomplish what we have.
Every time I drive into or around Blanco I am amazed at how clean it is compared to 15 years ago. We appreciate the City Police Department for working with the citizens of Blanco 365 days a year to comply with the Nuisance Ordinance 332. Our volunteer leaders who have been with us from the beginning have also commented on the difference. Many potential home buyers 15 years ago would not buy homes here because it was so trashy and now we hear how many move here now because it is so clean.
Our Mission Statement is: To educate and engage Blanco citizens to take responsibility for improving their community environment.
"Thank You" From the Directors of KBB
