Sister Isadore M. Jackson Upshaw Yett was the third child born to Willie and Manuel Jackson in Blanco, Texas on April 9, 1915. She received her childhood education at Peyton Colony School and then furthered her education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She lived in Peyton Colony all her life.
Sister Yett dedicated her life to Christ as a young girl. She was an active member of Mt. Horeb Baptist church throughout her life. She was a hard worker and cleaned and kept up the church by herself for many years, after the other ladies of the church passed on or moved away. Most Sundays you would see Sister Yett sweeping off the front steps and Deacon Yett sitting in his red pickup truck waving at the people driving by, as they prepared for the Sunday School and church service.
She was known by many people in the Blanco community because she used to clean houses for income, and also worked at the nursing homes in Blanco. Among her many accomplishments she was a self taught pianist, which she learned because of her love of music and so she led the worship in church, where she served as choir director,Sunday school teacher and secretary, usher, church clerk and deaconess. She did many things for the church for which she was never thanked, but we know from God’s Word that He justly rewards us for our earthly deeds, and if we don’t toot our horns or sing our own accolades for recognition, He will lavish us with His just rewards for the work we’ve done for His Kingdom. She’s in that great mansion God has prepared for each one of us, and it’s a song she loved to sing, too!
Sister Yett attended church regularly until her health began to fade and upon her passing, she was the eldest of the elders and mother of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church.
Isadore was preceded in death by two spouses, Thad Upshaw and Leslie Yett and step-son Lester Yett, and two brothers, Jack Jackson and Milton Jackson. She was greatly loved by all and leaves to mourn her death the following: niece – Joyce Jones; nephew – Lullis Jackson; 12 great nieces – Doris Jones, Patricia Alexander, Barbara Booe, Faye Monroe, Rachel Jones, Janice Soria, Kim Jackson, Debra Ann Jones, Catherine Jones, Machon Jackson, Regina Jones, Mary Campbell; 7 great nephews – Clarence Jackson, Ray Coffee, William City, Michael Jones, Robert Jones, Gary Jones, William Jones; the church family, the congregation of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, and a host of other family members and friends.
Although she won’t be with us in body, she will be with us in spirit, and she leaves with us her example of dedication to our Lord and His church. She showed us that we must care for the building so there will be a place for the preacher and congregation to come worship God in spirit and truth.
Her celebration of life will be held at the church she loved, Mt. Horeb Baptist Church at 593 Peyton Colony Road, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The service will be conducted by Rev. Henry DeShay, who was pastor of Mt. Horeb during the years she was able to attend. She will be buried in Peyton Colony cemetery following the ceremony.
