The Board of Directors for the Blanco Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that a new executive director has come on board and is looking toward the next year with enthusiasm. Blanco resident Libbey Aly has accepted the executive director position. “Libbey’s experience with internet, retail, entertainment, and event coordination would have been appealing to many employers, and we feel really lucky that we found someone locally with what the Board feels is just the right skill set,” said Marcy Westcott, current president of the chamber.
The Aly family has lived in Blanco for sixteen years. Libbey and her husband Brandon settled here after having both been raised in Dallas. Their daughter Alina was raised in the Blanco schools and will graduate in the spring.
“Over the course of our lives in Blanco, I have met so many amazing and talented people,” said Aly. “Blanco has the finest musicians, artists, and craftsmen of all aspects. One of the greatest reasons why Blanco is so special is the friendly members of our community. I am really excited that the opportunity at the Chamber became available. I love this town and feel so blessed to live here. I enjoy our visitors. Seeing my beautiful town through their eyes makes me thankful to call Blanco home. I’m really looking forward to working for and with the Chamber for Blanco.”
In Aly’s opinion, “The Chamber of Commerce is in an obvious position to help foster the economic growth of Blanco. We all love the benefits that come from living in a small town, yet we know growth is inevitable. We have the ability to be the driving force for the kind of growth that allows us all to continue to earn wages where we live – without having to commute to Austin or San Antonio for work. There is a great deal of opportunity for Blanco to grow and thrive as a community, while still maintaining the aspects of Blanco that make it such am amazing place to live.”
The Chamber held their annual retreat at the Red Corral Ranch on October 25, 2012, which served to introduce Mrs. Aly to the incoming board of directors, and to develop strategies for going forward in the future.
The retreat attendees established goals and objectives for the coming year and began prioritizing objectives for accomplishment. The most important objective to come from the retreat workshops is the desire to foster more open communication within Blanco’s business community and to become more pro-active in assisting the member base of the Chamber in becoming more successful.
Westcott summed up the prevailing thoughts from the Retreat: “In a town like Blanco, the Chamber of Commerce has to assume roles and responsibilities that go beyond that of a traditional Chamber. While our primary focus will continue to be serving our members, the Blanco Chamber will continue to assume a leadership role in community and economic development in Blanco. We are committed to increasing communication throughout the community and within the Chamber itself. The Chamber should serve as a unifying resource for all of us here in Blanco, and we are going to strive to continue that this next year.”
If you are currently a Chamber of Commerce member, please make plans to attend the joint chamber mixer on December 13, 2012, at the Big Red Barn at the Red Corral Ranch. The chambers of commerce for Blanco, Wimberley, and Dripping Springs will host this event and it is free for Chamber members to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet other business owners in our surrounding communities.
