Dear Editor,
It was a very sad day when an eviction notice was posted on Blanco's American Legion Building. Veterans, 10 days to get out.
The message this sends to our community lacks loyalty, commitment and our traditional values.
Who could foresee sixty-five years ago that verbal agreements made by our city officials to our American Veterans would mean nothing in the years to come?
Interesting to see the Blanco school board who is using the lost agreement as their legal strength does not have one person who served in our military. Perhaps if they did, this wall street type of acquisition would not be considered morally aligned.
What kind of message is this to our children? Perhaps inspiration to serve in the military?
Or maybe entitlement issues that their needs are more important than their ancestors who have given them the luxury of living in peace? Integrity and honoring one’s word...perhaps really means, we will honor it as long as it is economically convenient , and the people are alive to defend it or find the agreement.
Is everything just about economics or is there some hope that commitments made by our ancestors and veterans will be honored? The hearing set for Friday 13th at 11:00 AM in Johnson City showed our legal system at work...the panel of lawyers from the school Board against the elderly veterans.
Now isn't that something?
