The Blanco Junior Varsity football team treated themselves to a 48-0 victory over the Johnson City Eagles on Halloween evening, Thursday, October 31. The Panthers kicked off to begin the game with the Eagles taking over on offense on the 50 yard line. Chase Horton and Joe Lopez each made tackles and the Panther defense forced the Eagles to punt. Kailen Webster returned the punt 20 yards to the 50 yard line. The panther offensive line went to work, blocking for the Blanco running backs. Horton charged through the line for a 43 yard run to the 7 and then picked up 2 more yards to the 5. Webster dashed the final 5 yards for the touchdown. The PAT failed with Blanco taking the lead 6-0 at 6:41 in the 1st quarter. Blanco kicked off to Johnson City and the defense again forced the Eagles to punt. Webster made an 18 yard return to the Blanco 48 yard line. Aaron Uballe made carries of 13 yards and 17 yards for Blanco. Horton then moved the ball 12 yards to the Eagle 5 yard line. Quarterback Jordan Wagner hit Uballe with a 5 yard touchdown pass. Uballe ran the ball in to the endzone for the 2 point conversion. With 2:50 remaining in the 1st quarter, Blanco led 14-0.
Justin Requenes kicked off for Blanco with the ball sailing over the Eagle returners for a touchback. The Eagles offense started on their own 25 yard line. Wes Eskew and Gus Martinez made outstanding stops. Johnson City was again forced to punt on 4th down.
After the Eagle punt and an Eagle holding penalty, the Panther offense took over on the Blanco 42. Horton rumbled through the defense picking up 17 yards to the Eagle 41 yard line. Webster dashed 26 yards to the 15, with Wagner moving the ball 11 yards to the 1 yard line on the next play. Then on a quarterback keeper, Wagner stretched the final yard into the endzone for the TD. The extra point kick was blocked. At 9:57 in the 2nd quarter, the Panther lead climbed to 20-0.
Blanco kicked off to the Johnson City 25 yard line with Steven Flores and Jeremy Kindla making the stop on the run back at the Johnson City 35. Lopez, Eskew, and John Cross Caldwell all made outstanding tackles to stop the Eagle offense again. Webster returned the Eagle punt to the Johnson City 45 yard line. The Eagle defense stopped the Panthers and Johnson City took over on downs on the 37. The Blanco defense led by Lopez, Martinez, and Kris Enriquez once again forced Johnson City to punt. Horton moved the ball 8 yards, and then 17 yards to the Johnson City 45. Uballe added rushes of 8 yards, 5 yards, and 4 yards. Wagner capped the scoring drive with a 5 yard touchdown pass to Jared Mayfield. Requenes booted the extra point to put the Panthers up 27-0 at the halftime break.
The Eagles kicked off to begin the 2nd half with Mayfield making a 10 yard return to the Blanco 45. Horton broke away for a 26 yard gain to the Johnson City 29, followed by Webster moving the ball to the 3 yard line. Horton finished the drive with a 3 yard TD run, Requenes kick was good. The Panthers led 34-0 with 8:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Blanco kicked off with Flores and Jacob Mangold stopping the return at the Eagle 15 yard line. Requenes, Lopez, and Caldwell each made tackles to hold the Eagles. Webster returned the punt 13 yards to the JC 37 yard line. Mangold and Gage Bussey rushed for 3 yards and 6 yards respectively, Wagner then hit Webster in the endzone for a 26 yard touchdown. Requenes PAT kick was good. The Panthers led 41-0 at 4:23 in the 3rd quarter.
After the Blanco kick off the defense held tight again with tackles by Mangold, Kendall Hartmann and Ross Edwards.
The Eagles punted again and Blanco started their offense at their own 39 yard line.
Flores rushed for 11 yards with Mangold picking up carries for 5 and 8 yards. Horton broke free for a 29 yard gain. From the 4 yard line, Flores scampered in for the score with Requenes adding the PAT to raise the Panthers lead to 48-0 with 8:32 in the 4th quarter. On the Blanco kick off the Eagles fumbled and Jacob Robinson recovered for Blanco at the JC 34 yard line. Luis Elizondo, Bussey, and Mangold carried the ball for Blanco. Noah Wheeler played quarterback. Hartmann, Eskew, and Randall Jones made stops for the Panthers.
The Panthers won 48-0 and now hold a 7-2 season record.
