The Blanco All Sports Booster Club held its first meeting on Thursday, July 18 at the Blanco Library to discuss the upcoming school year; the BASBC Board is excited about all of the great ideas and plans!

One of our main goals for this year is to raise awareness about who we are and what we do. Before I was involved in the All Sports Booster Club, I wasn’t quite sure what role the club played, nor did I realize that the All Sports Booster Club does so much more than just run the concession stand!

While it is true that the BASBC runs the concession stand at football games in partnership with the Band Booster Club, we also sell t shirts, Panther merchandise, hold fundraisers, run concessions for basketball, volleyball and track, and gather business sponsorships as well.

Each year, the BASBC raises around $15,000. But where does it go?

Well, the first answer is scholarships. The last two years, the Booster Club has awarded twenty-four seniors with $1,000 scholarships. That’s a lot of scholarships!

In addition to helping our seniors, we also work with the Athletic Department, purchasing much needed supplementary equipment for our Blanco athletes.

Some believe that the All Sports Booster Club only supports the football team – that’s simply not true! Last year, Athletic Director Danny Rogers asked for, and was given, $2,000 to purchase all new weight bars, which are used by every student in athletics from 7th grade through 12th grade. Other examples of what we have helped to provide for the athletic department is a timer for track and warm-up suits for the basketball team.

This year, the football teams will have a spiffed-up run-through, because the All Sports Booster Club has paid for it to be revamped!

But all of this can’t happen if we don’t have volunteers. We are asking every family who has a student in 7-12th grades to join the Booster Club and volunteer for just one concession, join us at meetings, and help us think of ways to make sure that the Booster Club will be able to continue doing what it does.

If you are the parent of the middle schooler, now is the perfect time to join! Don’t wait until your son or daughter is playing their last game, in their last year of high school! Put in your time now, and be able to sit in the stands later, knowing that you helped keep this great organization going and that your child will benefit, whether by receiving a scholarship or providing much needed equipment to help them improve their game!

The board, made up of myself, Melissa Kneese and Corey Brotzman, is eager to see you at our next meeting. Please join us!
