Reality Check (Focus on Faith)

When flying in weather with very poor visibility a pilot can experience a sensation know as “vertigo.” They cannot tell by looking out the cockpit windows whether the plane is flying at a level altitude, turning left or right, or whether it is going up or down! They become completely disoriented to where the plane is in relation to the ground, but they may not even be aware they are experiencing the problem. The only safe way for a pilot to fly in weather like this is to learn to look at, interpret, and trust the plane’s instruments. The pilot must guide the plane by what the instruments tell him is reality!

The Bible should be to us what those instruments are to the pilot. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The word of God serves as a reality check. We are all in need of this kind of guidance. Our feelings and other standards can give a false sense of security. Where are you in your spiritual flight? How do you know? By looking at the instrument panel you can be led safely home, take a look and see!
