New Bar-B-Que Plans to Open in September (Community News)

by Merannda Button

Just as the sign says, soon there will ‘finally’ be a BBQ in Blanco again. The former Riley’s BBQ and Steakhouse building has been bought by Mike Betzer and business partner Gary Kuykendall. Blanco County News was able to catch Gary during a busy day of reconstruction for a quick chat.

Gary owned the Santa Fe Cafe in San Antonio for about 25 years. He has recently done construction work for several restaurants in the area. The building is undergoing some serious reconstruction and Gary plans to add an outdoor dining area in front of the BBQ building.

The primary menu will be BBQ and Burgers. Gary told us he plans on implementing “Specialty Nights” and catering options once business gets rolling.

For now, only the BBQ side will open. Gary didn’t tell us plans for the former Steakhouse, mentioning that it needed “more work.”

Gary did let us in on the name of the new restaurant, the Texas Old Three Hundred BBQ. Gary’s great-great-great-grandfather, Abner Kuykendall, was among the first to join Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred colonists.

Plans on opening the BBQ in the middle of September.
