The Christian Walk (Focus on Faith)

By John Kinslow, minister, Blanco Church of Christ

On August 18, 2000 Jean Beliveau went out for a walk and kept on walking until he had walked around the world. He covered 47,000 miles through 64 countries and wore out 54 pairs of shoes. He started when he was 45 years old and finished at the age of 56. That's what you call going for a walk! We are not called upon to walk around the world, but we are called upon to walk in our world as our Lord would have us to walk. The image of walking is used to describe a way of life.

The book of Ephesians uses the word 'walk' to describe different aspects of the Christian walk. The Christian is to walk in good works (Eph. 2:10), to walk worthy of the calling by which we were called (Eph. 4:1), to not walk a worldly walk (Eph.4:17), to walk in love (Eph.5:1-2), to walk in the light (Eph.5:7-8), to walk in wisdom (Eph. 5:15).

There must have been times when Mr. Beliveau thought of quitting but he never did. He completed the journey. The Christian walk should be one that keeps on keeping on.
