“Let nothing affright thee; All things are passing; God never changeth; Whom God possesseth in nothing is wanting” -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (from the Spanish of Santa Teresa, 1515-1582)

Bro. Rusty Hicks preached his farewell sermon at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning April 14, 2013.

Bro. Hicks ministered at FBC for 28 years, longer than any other Baptist pastor had served. In addition to day-to-day ministries, the church helped to plant several new churches in the area, added a youth administrative wing, and launched an English class for speakers of other languages under the direction of Mary Park and Janie Jones.

The daughters of the Hicks, Karen and Stacie, grew up in Blanco, as did Brennan, Aaron, and Amber. When Stacie sort of ran off to wed, Cicero Rust calmed Bro. Hicks by reminding him that he and Olla had eloped into a rock solid marriage.

Best wishes go out to “Preacher” and Mary Lou; sincere prayers surround them as their new ministries unfold. FBC looks forward to the future with excitement and high expectations under God’s direction, with the foundation of faith of those who in 1859 first constituted FBC.
