The 8th Annual Blanco River Run supporting Project Graduation, a drug and alcohol-free graduation night lock in, was held Saturday, April 20.
The 5k run/walk meandered through the beautiful Blanco State Park, along the Blanco River. This year's River Run attracted 90 participants, and raised $2500 dollars for Project Graduation. This was a marked increase from last year, when only 44 runners participated. Twenty two middle school students accepted the challenge to run made by their science teacher and avid runner, Pam Meier. First, Second, and Third place medals were given for 16 categories of runners, and a gold medal for best overall finish, male and female.
Local businesses also supported the event through cash sponsorships. This year's sponsors included Chimney Valley Ranch, Benson Ranch, Benson Paint and Body Shop, Express Care Auto, Blanco Hydrogas, Uptown Blanco Restaurant and Blanco Regional Clinic.
The River Run has become so well known that HEB now lists it as an official Wellness Event for their employees. Proceeds from this event will be used to provide cash awards, door prizes, and to rent a venue for Project Graduation night.
