Keep Blanco Beautiful, which brings people together to build and sustain vibrant communities, is encouraging people of all ages to volunteer for Blanco’s upcoming Great American Cleanup events.
Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup takes place throughout the country from small, rural communities to large, urban areas, reaching its apex during the spring months. From March through May, an anticipated 1,200 KAB affiliates and partnering organizations will bring together more than 4 million volunteers to create more vibrant, beautiful, cleaner and safer towns and cities.
KBB’s volunteers will be called upon to clean up litter and debris from public lands and the Blanco River. KBB will be conducting Great American Cleanup events on Saturday, April 13, starting in Bindseil Park next to City Hall.
All during this week, citizens can take their discarded items to the city yard. Stop by City Hall for a voucher before heading to the yard.
Anyone who is completely unable–for reasons of health or age, or single moms–to get their discarded items to the city yard on Saturday should call Blanco City Hall at 830-833-4525 to register. The truck and trailer brigade will be stopping by residences on the list on Saturday morning to move the junk to the yard. The items should be household discards and no trash.
As a way to highlight KBB’s volunteer efforts, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) launched its new, interactive Social Volunteer Hub (kabcleanup.org) that highlights volunteers’ experiences during the Great American Cleanup.
“Each and every day, we are singularly focused on transforming public spaces into beautiful places in communities across the country,” said Matt McKenna, KAB president and chief executive officer. “Whether the place is a neighborhood park, a river shoreline or a vacant lot, public places provide a neutral space in which people can come together, share ideas and establish meaningful relationships. When provided with the right tools and resources, we’ve found that people tend to take better care of these places, resulting in even greater community benefits.”
Creating a Digital Cleanup Community
The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program that harnesses the power of millions of volunteers to build and sustain vibrant communities. This year, the 27-year-old program will be reignited by the launch of KAB’s new Social Volunteer Hub (kabcleanup.org). This hub brings the Great American Cleanup story to life, allowing volunteers to share their cleanup experiences in real time through the power of social media.
By using the #KeepAmericaBeautiful hashtag, volunteers in Blanco and their counterparts nationwide connect through the social hub as it aggregates volunteers’ tweets, Instagram photos, Facebook posts and Foursquare check-ins in one centralized location. With the launch of the social volunteer hub, KAB will engage volunteers with technology and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards to become more involved in their local community’s volunteer activities.
