A fellow said, “What would you like people to say about you at your funeral ?” One answered, “He was a great humanitarian, who cared about his community.” Another said, “He was a great husband and father, who was an example for many to follow.” The last said, “Look, he’s moving!”
The resurrection of Christ is the cornerstone truth of Christianity; because of His empty tomb, our lives can be filled with a living hope. As the apostle Peter said, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (I Peter 1:3).
After His resurrection, the Lord appeared on the earth for forty days, giving proof of His resurrection from the dead (Acts 1:3), after which He ascended to His throne in heaven from which He now reigns. Ten days after His ascension, He sent forth the Holy Spirit on the apostles, in the city of Jerusalem, as He foretold (Luke 24:46-49). The gospel was preached for the first time after His resurrection, and those who heard and obeyed were added to the Lord’s church (Acts 2:36-41,47). Have you repented and been baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38)?
