Experience the adventure and history of the early Model A Ford automobile. The Lone Star Model A Ford Club is a chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America. This famous national historical society is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Model A Ford automobile as manufactured from 1928 through 1931. More than 80 families own, operate and have a special love for more than 100 Model A automobiles.
The Lone Star Model A Ford Club is based in Georgetown, Texas; however, you don’t have to go to Georgetown to view these spectacular automobiles. Our own Blanco Buggy Museum will host a special event mid-afternoon Saturday, April 6. There will be approximately twenty of 1920s to 1930s automobiles on display. The group is anxious to view the mode of transportation before the “horseless” carriage at the Buggy Barn Museum.
While in Blanco, the club will be visiting the historic Smith Ranch. The Smith Ranch is a “Texas Century Ranch,” meaning it has remained in operation in the same family for more than 100 years. The old farmhouse built in 1899 bears a plaque awarded in 1976 by the commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture as a Texas Century Ranch. The house has been remodeled and added to over the years and is presently owned by Stephen and Kennie Smith.
A tour of the old farmhouse will be available to those interested. Also a tour of the dinosaur tracks in the riverbed can be enjoyed. Texas State University professors have studied these tracks for years; they bring their classes for tours, and their teaching staff makes an annual trip to see the tracks. Stephen will conduct the tour of the tracks and will make available information from the research by Texas State University.
This group of automobiles will need to head back home plenty early so as not to get caught out on the highways in the dark. The lights of these old cars are not as bright as those we drive today. So don’t miss out; join us at this month’s Saturday of fun activities.
Members of the national knife and tomahawk throwing teams will be performing exciting skills with their sharp objects for your enjoyments.
The Buggy Barn Museum, located in the Texas Hill Country just north of downtown Blanco, is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, dedicated to providing a unique opportunity to step back in time. You can experience these timeless transportation vehicles that had such a significant role in our history and heritage. All fund-raising effort is used to expand the museum and collection while promoting the preservation of this important era. There are various opportunities for educational programs highlighting the historical role of carriages in the cultural, social, and economic development of our country.
