Panther Softball 3 – 1 in District, Fall to Comfort in Nail-biter (Sports)

The Panther softball team completed the first round of district play with a 3 – 1 record. On Tuesday, March 19 the Panthers traveled to Ingram for a 23 – 0 win. With no hesitation the Panthers scored 13 runs in the 1st inning, with 3 runs tallied on a homerun by Kelsey Schwind. Kelsey added 2 singles and 2 more RBI. Callie Culton batted “1000” hitting 3 of 3 with a single , a double, a triple, and 6 RBI. Payton Savarino and Taylor Guinn each hit 2 singles. Meaghen Seales scored 4 runs, with Leslie McClinton knocking in 4 runs. Callie pitched for the Panthers, striking out 5 batters and allowing only 1 hit.

Then on Friday, March 22 the Panthers shut out the Johnson City Eagles 15 – 0. Taylor hit 2 of 2 with a single and a double. Payton smacked a double and recorded 4 RBI. Kelsey hit a homerun and a single to bring in 4 runs. Meaghen hit 2 singles with 2 RBI. Meaghen pitched the 3 inning, no hitter with 1 walk and 1 strike-out.

On Monday, March 25, the Panthers suffered only their second loss of the year and first loss in district to Comfort, 5 – 6. Comfort scored 6 runs in the first inning. The Panthers scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 1 in each of the 4th and 5th innings. Callie hit 2 of 2 with 2 singles and an RBI. Jamie McClinton swatted a single and a double. Leslie hit a single and a triple. Meaghen pitched for the Panthers tossing 3 strike-outs.

The Panther varsity travels to Poth on Thursday for a non-district game. Game time is set for 6 pm.
