The community is invited to observe a Lenten worship on the first day of Holy Week, which is March 24, 2013. The worship will take place at New Hope Church and will feature the “Stations of the Cross.”
This worship is steeped in the early history of the church. Early Christians went on pilgrimages to the Holy Land to remember and honor the journey of Christ during his last hours. As Christianity spread, churches started using statues or stained glass to help their members pilgrimage the “Way of the Cross” in the local setting. The observers moved around the sanctuary, stopping at an artistic depiction of Jesus going from trial through the streets until his death on the cross. Each artistic depiction became known as a station.
At New Hope we will incorporate music, readings, and projected art to lead the worshiper on a pilgrimage of reflection. The art used will invite the pilgrimage to take place in the “mind’s eye” with dependence on the Holy Spirit to touch the heart of each worshiper, bringing all into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ our Savior.
The evening will start with a meal at 6:00, with worship starting at 7:00. Please know all are welcome to this Passion Sunday observance. New Hope will also conduct Maundy Thursday service on the 28th at 5:30 and Good Friday service on the 29th at 7:30. Easter Services will be at 8:30 on the 31st. We pray you have a blessed Holy Week.
