The Panther softball team fell 5-7 to the Navarro Panthers on Tuesday, March 5, in a nail-biter. Blanco was down four runs at the end of the second inning. In the third, Leslie McClinton nailed an over-the-fence homerun to spark the offense. The team loaded the bases but scored no runs. Angel Williams scored a run in the fourth and Kelsey Schwind scored in the fifth on passed balls by the Navarro catcher. Blanco continued to chip away at the Navarro lead with two more runs by Angel and Leslie in the sixth inning. On Friday, March 8, Blanco traveled to Fredericksburg for the Billie’s tournament. The Panthers shut-out Fort Worth Country Day private school 10-0. The team recorded 13 hits with Abbie Culton and Angel each hitting three singles. Kelsey leveled a homerun over the center field fence. Callie hit two singles. Callie went the distance tossing four strike-outs and giving up only one hit.
Next, the Panthers defeated the Fredericksburg team 8-4. Meaghen led the team with three singles. Leslie smacked a single and a double, with Callie adding a single and a triple. Taylor Guinn hit two singles. Meaghen pitched five innings. Payton Savarino pitched the final two innings.
In the final game on Friday, the Panthers beat the Hondo Owls 10-7 in a come from behind win. Down 2-5 in the third, the Panthers stormed back in the seventh scoring eight runs. Kelsey hit two singles and a double with three RBI. Meaghen added a single and a double. Meaghen tossed three strike-outs, with Callie adding one.
On Saturday, March 9, the Panthers outscored Lampasas 9-2. Meaghen hit two singles with Payton blasting a triple. Jamie McClinton hit a single. Callie pitched the game tossing three strike-outs.
The Panthers posted a 4-0 record in the round-robin tournament. The team holds a 13-1 season record.
