Panther Softball Champs in Blanco Tournament: Season Begins With 9-0 Record (Sports)

The Panther softball team rallied back against the Wimberley Texans to snag the win, 7-4, on Tuesday, February 26. Then on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 the Panthers defeated 6 teams to win the 9th Annual Blanco Softball Tournament.

Against Wimberley, Callie Culton and Meaghen Seales pitched for the Panthers. Blanco was down 1-4 at the end of the 4th inning. However, in the 5th the Panthers scored 5 runs to take the lead, adding another run in the 6th to take the win 7-4. Leslie McClinton hit a single and a double, with Kelsey Schwind adding 2 singles.

In the tournament the Panthers defeated Lytle 15-6. Callie slammed a homerun with 2 RBI. Abbie Culton hit 3 singles and Jamie McClinton hit 2 singles with each batting 1000.

Next the Panthers downed Harper 7-2. Abbie blasted a homerun and a single for 3 RBI. Taylor Guinn and Jamie each hit 2 singles. Blanco beat the San Marcos JV 14-4, with 3 players hitting homeruns. Leslie, Taylor Guinn and Kelsey each smashed the ball over the fence. Taylor also hit 2 singles. Abbie hit 2 singles and a double to bring in 4 runs.

On Saturday Poth was the next Panter victim as Blanco won 21-0. Kelsey hit a homerun, a single and a double. Callie hit 3 singles. Leslie blasted a double and a triple to score 4 runs.

In the semi-final game the Panthers nipped the Llano Yellowjackets 7-6. Meaghen smacked a double for 2 RBI in the comeback win. The Panthers were down 1-5 until the 3rd inning when they combined 4 hits with Llano errors to take the lead. Angel Williams, Leslie, and Abbie each hit singles.

In the championship game, Blanco outscored the Hondo Owls 15-3. Leslie and Kelsey each leveled a homerun. Meaghen hit 2 singles. Mishelle Calzoncit hit 1 single and Payton Savarino blasted 3 singles. Callie, Meaghen and Payton pitched throughout the tournament. Outstanding infield stops and double plays were made by Leslie, Angel, Kelsey, Callie, Payton, and Taylor. Outstanding outfield catches were made by Lexee Jenkins, Abbie, Meaghen, Jamie and Mishelle. The team combined for a record-breaking 8 over-the-fence homeruns.

The Panthers travel to Fredericksburg on Friday, March 8 for the Billies’ Tournament.
