“Welcome to My Garden” by Barb Forrister.

Uptown Blanco’s 2nd annual quilt show, “Wildflowers,” is dedicated to Lady Bird Johnson who loved wildflowers and was also an avid collector of contemporary and historic quilts. This year marks her 100th birthday and we will be celebrating the occasion and honor Mrs. Johnson with this beautiful wildflower themed exhibit and show at Uptown Blanco Arts & Entertainment in Blanco, TX. “Wildflowers” will feature themed art wildflower quilts as well as categories in traditional art quilts, youth quilts and contemporary quilts made by quilters throughout Texas. The judge for this year’s event is Martha Tsihlas of del Sol Quilts in Austin, Texas.

Also on display will be one of Lady Bird Johnson’s family quilts and photographs along with furniture on loan from the Texas White House courtesy of the LBJ National Park Service. Other quilts on display will be the beautiful wildflower-themed series “Petals of My Heart” by McKenna Ryan of Pine Needles Quilt Designs and many other quilts from various artists.

Uptown Blanco is excited to announce the acquisition and display of a special quilt from London. This patchwork Smart Car quilt was created for a breast cancer fundraising campaign in Europe and will be on display at the exhibit. The life-size patchwork quilt completely covers a Smart Car and is made entirely of fabric donated and signed by over 20 celebrities including Russell Brand, Ryan Giggs, Sara Cox, Elizabeth Hurley, Rachel Stevens, Twiggy Lawson, Joanna Lumley and Jane McDonald, each selecting personal swatches of pink fabric from worn articles of clothing all used to create this special quilt.

The 2nd Annual Uptown Blanco Wildflower Quilt Show is hosted by the Uptown Blanco Art Center. Vendors will be demonstrating various quilt-making tools and techniques and will be selling quilts. The Johnson City Quilt Guild will have quilt raffles and will display as well as sell quilts in a Country Store setting.

The exhibit opens at noon Friday, October 12, with the public invited to an opening reception that evening from 5pm to 6:30pm. The exhibit runs from Saturday, October 13, 10am to 5pm and Sunday, October 14, noon to 4pm. There will be a $5 entrance fee and children under 12 are free.

The show is at Uptown Blanco Art Center, 317 Main Street (entrance on 3rd Street) Blanco, TX.
