Pedernales Electric is committed to the leaders of tomorrow. For more than a decade PEC has offered scholarships to local high school and home-schooled seniors in its service area, and applications for 2013 scholarships are now available.
PEC will provide 14 scholarships to deserving seniors this spring, with amounts ranging from $2,500 to one $10,000 scholarship. The scholarships can be used to pay expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school or trade school. Each scholarship recipient must be a senior in high school, and his or her parents or legal guardians must be PEC members.
Recipients will be selected based on their applicant profile, including academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need.
This year, applicants also will be evaluated on an essay on the following topic: PEC is dedicated to serving members, bringing added value to their lives and enriching our communities. Mentors and role models also bring value and enrich our lives. Identify a lesson you’ve learned from a mentor/role model and how that has impacted you.
“As a cooperative, we strive to bring services and opportunities to our members and communities,” said PEC Vice President of Member Services and 2013 PEC Scholarship Committee President Eddie Dauterive. “By helping our local students pursue their educational goals, we are investing in their future, as well as the future of our local communities.”
The PEC Scholarship Committee selects a panel of independent judges that determine recipients. Applications and more details are available at pec.coop/scholarship. All scholarship materials must be submitted online by Thursday, March 21.
