Blanco has a beautiful cemetery! The flags snap proudly in the breeze. The grave sites are well-kept. It is one of the few trash-free public areas in town. We can all be proud of our historic site. But, it doesn’t get this way by itself. The hard-working board members spend many hours making sure the cemetery is a place to be proud of. We owe a big thanks to Rebecca Howerton, Gail McClellan, Diane Hostetler, Dennis Moore, Clara Gourley and Connie Russell for all the hours they put in managing the cemetery.

Saturday, February 23, is a big day for the Blanco Cemetery. The annual meeting of the membership will be held at 2 p.m. at the Blanco Library. The main order of business is the election of board members. The Board is responsible for the care and upkeep of the Blanco Cemetery. They are the stewards of the final resting place of our loved ones and do not take their responsibilities lightly. Diane Hostetler is the only incumbent running for reelection. Jane Miller was appointed to fill the vacant secretary position and now needs to be elected by the membership body. Also running are Patty Coffee, Wyatt Finch, Brett Gass, Joyce Knoll, Marilyn Mikes, Kim Page, Pi Stone and Karen Wagner. Nominations may also be taken from the floor. The board may consist of between 5 and 9 members. The membership must decide how many board members are needed to carry out the responsibilities of the board. Gail McClellan’s term has not expired so there are more candidates than positions to be filled. It is important that all members attend the meeting. Not sure if you are a member? Anyone who owns a plot in the cemetery or has a close family member buried there is part of the organization. Support Blanco’s Historical Cemetery! Show your appreciation for the flags of our veterans flying over graves! Keep the memory of our town’s founding citizens alive! Attend the annual meeting of the Blanco Historical Cemetery in the library at 2 p.m. on the 23rd of February.
