Remember that San Antonio artist and former Blanco resident, Betsy Dudley, will be speaking about her new book, Rena’s Gospel of Beauty, which is about her grandmother (the original Martha Stewart!) this coming Saturday morning at 11:00 am at the Library. This book is about a remarkable woman named Rena Munger Aldredge from Dallas, Texas, whose life was spent creating beauty for others. She was a visionary who turned flower arranging, table design, and Christmases into pure art. Her extraordinary designs captured the splendor of an era when life was filled with family gatherings, elegant dinners, teas, and beautiful gardens. Rena's contributions to the arts and cultural community extended far beyond Dallas, leaving a lasting legacy.

As an artist, Betsy Slater Dudley has long been recognized for her powerful sculptures and intricate tapestries. In Rena's Gospel of Beauty, she proves she can also weave together words, memories and images, creating a story that is both personal and profound. Showcasing her grandmother's extraordinary tablescapes from 1930-1960, Dudley gives us a book that is a beautiful reminder of the importance of art in our everyday lives.

She lives and works as an artist in San Antonio,Texas with her husband Brooke Dudley and their two dogs. Artist, mother, grandmother, and writer, “I took my first art class at 50 and at 75 am energized and excited as I was when I began. Life as an artist can begin at any age and I encourage others to open their hearts and follow their dreams.”
