Harley Houston Bowman (Obituaries)

Harley Houston Bowman, 60, passed away December 27, 2012 in Blanco, TX. He was born November 17, 1952 in Conroe, TX to Lloyd and Bonita Bowman. Harley graduated from Conroe High School and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with degrees in Sociology and Education. He enlisted and retired from the U.S. Air Force where he received the Purple Heart. Harley enjoyed his career with Smithson Valley High School as a football coach and History teacher as well as his time with Blanco High School where he also coached football and taught History. He was also a Director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Harley was proud of his parents and his upbringing which started “dirt poor” but improved greatly when his father started Bowman Butane in Conroe, TX. Harley was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Carl Douglas and Wilheim “Butch” Bowman. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Marilyn Dechert Bowman; son, Hunter Houston Bowman, daughter, Kristen Allie Bowman, and Kimberly Gail Bowman; grandchildren, Mason and Caden; sisters in law, Carolyn Savanich and husband David and Julie Hardin and husband John; mother and father in law, Julia Faye and Wesley Joe Dechert; and nieces and nephews, Dalton, Travis, Tracey, Trevor, and Tyler. Harley is also survived by other relatives and many dear friends. A memorial service honoring Harley’s life will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday January 2, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Blanco.
