With the holidays approaching, the conclusion of the first semester brings to an end a very successful fall show schedule for numerous local FFA members. In October, Carly Haack won Reserve Champion honors at the Ya’ll Come Back Fall Classic in Floresville with her Charolais steer, while Carlin Green, Asher Haack, and Hanna Garrett each did well, placing high in their respective breed classes. Then in November, a large number of local students took part in the Dripping Springs Fall Classic held in Johnson City. Grand and Reserve Grand Champion honors went to three local FFA members, with Kelton Marek exhibiting the Grand Champion steer in Ring A, James Leachman the Reserve Grand Champion steer in Ring B, and Dalton Savanich the Reserve Grand Champion Lamb in Ring B. In addition to their Grand and Reserve Grand placings, Kelton and James also took home 3 breed champions and a reserve breed champion each while Dalton took home reserve breed honors in both rings of the lamb show. Also doing well was Hanna Garrett. Hanna won 2 breed champions and 2 reserve breed champions in the hog show in addition to winning a breed champion in the steer show as well. She won Jr. Showmanship in the steers and reserve junior honors in the pigs. Other FFA members and their placings included Kolby Marek with 2 breed champions, a reserve breed champion and a 1st place in the steer show, Carlin Green with a breed champion and 2nd place in the steer show, Brenna Wallace with breed and reserve division champions and 2nd and 3rd place in the steer show, Trayton Preiss with a 2nd place hog, Callie Culton with a 3rd place lamb, Kinidi Moore with two 3rd place lambs, a 4th and 6th place lamb, and a 4th place hog, and Joanna Delavan with a 7th place lamb and hog and a 9th place lamb.
Finally, this past weekend proved to be the final jackpot show of the fall semester in New Braunfels at the annual Cougar Classic. Emily Biggs and Kelton Marek each won reserve breed honors in the steer show in addition to showing class winners. Emily placed 2nd with her other steer. Kolby Marek also did well, taking home a 1st place ribbon in the steer show, while Katherine Biggs placed 2nd with her steer. In the pig show, Hanna Garrett took home a 1st place ribbon in addition to placing in the top 5 with several other pigs, while Sydney Etzel, Kinidi Moore and Alli West all placed pigs in the top 5 of their respective classes, with Kinidi and Alli also placing lambs in the top 5 of the lamb show.
