Tejas Art Club Artist of the Month: Claudia Kay Smith (Community News)

I recently became interested in painting when I took a watercolor workshop a few months ago. I never painted anything beyond wall trim and fingernails, so painting with oils, for fun even, seemed a bit daunting! I heard about the Tejas Art Club around town and decided to check things out. I ended up finding Olga and some of the other art club members at Blanco Market Days, where they had a space set up to sell their paintings. What an incredible and talented group of people they are, but of course, that has always been true about Blanco; some of the most gifted artists live here. With painters, writers, chefs, photographers, dancers, and musicians, Blanco covers a broad spectrum of art media.

Anyway, back to "my own art," Olga started me out with a small picture of a girl in a garden, easy lines to follow, simple steps to get started in my new venture, and well, here is the fruit of my first "oil."

The Tejas Art Club is open to anyone who is an artist or aspires to create art. We meet at the Blanco Library on Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
