Was your Thanksgiving filled with turkey and dressing and pumpkin pie and then stringing lights and putting up the Christmas tree? Well, volunteers from San Antonio, Tina Stampley and her daughter Elena and friend, Judson High School Football player A. J. Forrester joined BlancoBarby as they spent their Thanksgiving Saturday putting up lights at the Buggy Barn Museum. The wind was strong and blowing the containers everywhere. The highway had lots of holiday traffic, but this did not stop them. This turned out to be the easy part. They then went inside the Museum and continued decorating more than 40 carriages, wagons in the main building and the Kids Korner activity cookie center. They even spent extra time on the antique Steel fire truck that will be carrying this year’s Blanco parade special someone in a red suit!
And, at the same time, holiday visitors to the Blanco area stopped in and toured the newly constructed old west historic movie set. They spent hours walking through all the barns to see the historic carriages and many other western and indian items collected from all over the world.
The first ever Holiday Bazaar, Saturday December 13th is from 10 am to 10 pm at the Museum will have art and craft vendors will be displayed throughout the buildings. Handmade items including jewelry, crochet scarves and blankets, holiday Christmas Stockings and an assortment of rag rugs will be placed in various holiday settings. Other vendors will include toys and holiday candles and decor. Many museum holiday gift items will be available as well. Don’t miss the special tagged items for a buy one get one half off deal!
Door prizes will be handed out hourly for the scavenger hunt! One of the new buildings will host an art gallery from the Blanco Art Club, featuring some of the finest local talent.
The children’s’ Kids Korner cookie station is all set and ready for your future bakers and chefs to experience a true holiday spirit. Assistants will provide guidance as the kids select from the many five inch size cookies of stars and Christmas trees. The Kids Korner will be open from 11 am to 3 pm only. There is a small fee of $2.00 per cookie or 3 for $5.00 which also includes a gift box. And if they are real creative, they can actually select from the many items available to string their own holiday garland for their tree at home or for the wildlife in their yard. They will have five feet of garland to string for $3.00 which includes a carrying box. Partial proceeds from the Kids Korner will be donated to the Buggy Barn Museum.
And if you get hungry, you can enjoy a hot bowl of homemade beef cabbage stew and cornbread prepared by chef Barby, $2.00 per cup or $4.00 for bowl. There will be a variety of your favorite desserts, plus lots of other holiday treats.
As the busy activity continues, family and friends will start to gather at 4 pm, to get a seat on one of the many wagons buggies, or carriages that will be in the Christmas parade. This will be on a first-come for room availability, so don’t be late. Maybe your family will ride with Santa!
When the wagon train returns after the parade there will be a holiday social with hot coffee and chocolate, homemade eggnog and holiday goodies to enjoy. Members of the Dry River Band will provide live music for your listening pleasure or a little boot scootn’.
The best part of the holidays is sharing and coming together. The second best part - it’s FREE. The Blanco Buggy Barn Museum family, staff, crew, volunteers and vendors, want to send a special holiday message of thanks and appreciation for your continued support and contributions.
The Blanco Buggy Barn Museum will remain in full holiday spirit through December. Plan to come by, take this opportunity to see all the new and continuing remodeling of the western movie set. This includes the old west church and antique bell. It’s the best of the best for the Blanco Community! Contact info. blancobarby@hotmail.com 512 825-6284
