FFA Members Compete at Texas State LDE’s (School)

From Jason Marek

After a very busy and successful start to the school year with land, range, homesite and plant ID teams all qualifying for state, the Blanco FFA competed in their first leadership development event of the fall as they participated in the 5th Annual Texas State University Invitational Leadership Development Events in San Marcos this past week. The event, which is sponsored by the Texas State Collegiate FFA Chapter, is quickly becoming one of the larger invitational leadership competitions in the state. This year alone, 54 teams from across the state, competed in 8 different events.

In the Greenhand FFA Creed Speaking Event, freshman Ty Preiss and Emily Biggs represented the local FFA chapter as each did very well with Ty placing 2nd overall and Emily 5th. Also competing in the Greenhand division were Will Granberg, Chloe Flores, Catie Bickham and Jon Lovingood as they combined to place 3rd overall as a team in the FFA Quiz contest. Individually, Chloe and Will tied for 4th high individual while Catie and Jon finished in the top 20. Also competing were Sara Jean Martinez and Maryn McMain. Sara Jean and Maryn competed as individuals in the senior division of the FFA Quiz contest placing 17th and 21st respectively.

These same students, as well as many others, will look towards their next competition as they will travel to Stephenville to compete at the Tarleton State University Invitational LDE’s the first week of November. After competing at TSU, the Blanco FFA will return home to continue preparing for the upcoming Hill District FFA and Area VII FFA LDE’s to be hosted by Blanco High School on November 10th and 19th. Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Felice and Jason Marek.
