Lady Panthers Take Bi-District Championship (Sports)

The Blanco Lady Panthers finished District 25-3A undefeated with a shutout victory over Georgetown Gateway College Prep Gators on Tuesday, October 28 with set scores of 25-11, 25-17, and 25-12. Against the Gators Reagan Rogers led the team with 16 kills, followed by Lexee Jenkins with 7 and Abbie Culton with 6. Jenkins made 20 set assists, Rogers hits 7 service aces, with Jenkins and Payton Savarino adding 3 each. Savarino made 13 digs, with Jamie McClinton slamming 1 block.

On Saturday, November 1st, the Panthers traveled to Fredericksburg for a “warm-up” match against the District 29-4A undefeated champions. The very tough Billies swept the Panthers 15-25, 15-25, and 21-25. At Fredericksburg, Rogers hit 16 kills with Jenkins adding 7 and Culton 3. Jenkins made 18 assists and Rogers added 6. Savarino hit 2 aces and Kari Graham hit 1. Culton, Jenkins, and Rogers each made 7 digs each. Skylar Burns hit 1 block.

Monday the Panthers started their playoff run with a 3-0 Bi-District win over the Brooks Academy Bengals with set scores 25-10, 25-8, and 25-22. On Monday against the Bengals Rogers again hit 16 kills with Jenkins making 8 and Culton 4. Jenkins set 19 assists. Graham served 21 times and made 8 aces. Jenkins hit 5 aces and Culton added 2. Rogers made 7 digs while Culton and Savarino added 5 each. McClinton and Burns each pounded 1 block.

The Panthers advance to the Area round of playoffs later this week, possibly as soon as Thursday. Their possible opponents, Edna or Stockdale, play Tuesday after presstime. Check the www.blanconews.com for the Area game information.
