The Honor Flight organization of Austin,Texas is seeking veterans of WWII to be their guests on an all expense paid trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Airfare, food, hotel and transportation are paid for by Honor Flight Austin as its way of saying thanks to the men and women who literally saved our world. Safety is paramount and every veteran is accompanied by a Guardian.
In 2004, recognizing the great debt that our nation owed these veterans, the World War II Memorial was dedicated in our Nation’s Capital, some 60 years after the wars end. Sadly, this delay meant that millions of these veterans never had the opportunity to visit their memorial. With that in mind, the Honor Flight Network was created in 2006 with the sole mission of transporting as many WWII veterans as possible to Washington to visit their memorial. Honor Flight Hubs began springing up around the Country and thousands of veterans have been given the opportunity to make the trip.
The Honor Flight Austin hub began its operation about three years ago and has already taken several hundred Central Texas veterans to Washington D.C. as its guests. To that end, Honor Flight Austin is looking for WWII veterans from counties in the Austin area to be a guest on what many veterans have described as the “trip of a lifetime”.
If you know of a WWII veteran who would be interested in a “trip of a lifetime” to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. please contact John Spahr, spahrvfw@yahoo.com or David Judson,d.judson@reagan.com. Either one of them would be eager to get back with you and give you more Honor Flight information. Time is running out for many of our WWII Veterans. Please reach out to them.
